Coach O’Neill is entering his 5th season as head men's and women's coach of the Knights. Tim is an Assumption graduate of 1996 who still holds the school shot put record at over 56 feet. Among his high school accomplishments include a third place finish in the shot put at the Drake Relays as well as an overall ranking of 2nd in class 3A. O'Neill went on to throw shot for the University of Iowa, but transferred to the University of Northern Iowa after only a semester to compete in both football and track. A 3 year starter at nose tackle for the Panthers, O'Neill was named defensive player of the game on 2 separate occasions. Joining the track team proved just as successful as Tim claimed all conference honors in the shot put helping UNI to 3 conference titles. Tim graduated with his degree in health promotion in 2000, accepting a job as the program director for Quad Cities Sports Acceleration. Shortly thereafter, he decided to continue in his athletic tradition by assisting at UNI summer camps and as a full time member of the Augustana College coaching staff as a defensive line coach. This involvement spurred AHS to again offer O'Neill a coaching position for the 2002-2003 school year, this time as assistant on the football team. During his first year at the helm, Coach O'Neill vowed a return to greatness for AHS track and field. In the 2002 campaign his promise held true, as the Knights would post 3 runner-up finishes at the state meet, setting 6 school records in the process. The men finished 8th in class 3A, their highest since O'Neill and assistant coach Charles Stelk teamed up to finish 3rd overall in 1996. Since O’Neill has returned, on the women’s side, there have been 10 State Qualifiers, 6 Conference Champions, 5 District Champions and three-State Runner-ups, one Place winning relay and a School Record Best 13th Place at the State meet. On the men’s side, 8th Place team, 4th Pace Team, 3rd Place team, 20 Conference Champions, 7 District Champions, 28 State Qualifiers, 16 Drake Relays Qualifiers, 1 Drake Relays Champion, 8 State Place Winners, 10 State Champions , 2 Nationally Ranked Relays and 1 All-American.

Coach Stelk is entering his 4th season as head assistant for the Knights. An Assumption graduate of 1996, Stelk was a 4 year letterwinner and 2 year captain of the track team. He garnered 3 conference championships and set 3 school records which still stand today. Ranked as high as second in the state in the 110 and 400 meter hurdles, Stelk accepted a division I track scholarship to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Running in the tough Missouri Valley Conference, Stelk blazed to a personal best of 52.19 in the 400 meter hurdles to rank among the top ten all-time at SIU. In addition to graduating with honors in physiology, he earned All-Academic status each of his 4 years competing. Charles is now a physical therapist having graduated from The University of Iowa. Still competing unattatched, Stelk was the first time champion of the now famous Bix Sprint-claiming the title of "fastest man in the quad cities."

After taking last season off from coaching Stelk has returned to for a talented senior class that will make a run at history in this years State Championship Meet. No team in Iowa state history has ever won the same event 3 years running setting a state record each time. The 1600 medley will attempt to do that this year with only two runners returning from last years squad. "400 runners are the athletes who win team titles, and at Assumption, we train to win."

Ball, a former Davenport Central and Bettendorf prep, had an outstanding high school career in cross country and track and field. Ball was a two-time state place winner in the 800 meter run at the Iowa State Track Meet, including a second-place, elite all-state performance as a junior in 1996. As a senior in 1997 Ball qualified for the state meet in the 200, 400, and 800 meter runs. John went on to run at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and competed primarily in the 800 meters while also running the 400 in relays. He earned 2 varsity letters as a member of the Sun Devils track and field squad before a series of injuries forced him to take a year off from the sport. In 2003 John beat out fellow coach Charles Stelk to claim the crown of “fastest man in the Quad Cities” as he edged the defending champion by 3 tenths of a second with less than 10 meters to go in the famous Bix Sprint. John is now a chiropractor in Phoenix, Arizona but is still an integral member of O'Neill's coaching braintrust.

John is most notably remembered for coaching Iowa track and field legend Brett Adams and a host of other talented runners who have gone on to enjoy successful collegiate careers.
